Free live site relay of Carmen to the steps of the Sydney Opera House
Experience Opera on the Big Screen as a live performance of Opera Australia’s Carmen is relayed into the Forecourt of the Sydney Opera House. Join host, ABC Classic FM presenter Damien Beaumont as the curtain goes up on this spectacular new production of one of the world’s favourite operas.
Bizet’s Carmen is everything opera should be – fiery, passionate and seductive. Don José is not the first man to fall for Carmen’s wiles, and nor will he be the last. But the mysterious gypsy leads this innocent soldier from his duty into a world of bullfighting, smuggling and wild dancing, where the turn of a card will decide his fate, and hers.
With Catherine Carby as Carmen and exciting Australian tenor Rosario La Spina as Don José, this gritty and exotic new production was originally created by Francesca Zambello for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
Performed in French with English surtitles.
Duration: 2 hours and 50 minutes including one 20 minute interval.”
